The Feast of the Seven Fishes, a dinner during which seven traditional seafood dishes are served on Christmas Eve, stems from the Roman Catholic tradition of abstaining from meat on the eve of a feast day. The tradition has gained popularity in the United States, and now families of all religions gather to celebrate the night before Christmas with a seafood-centric meal.
No one should have to miss out on the festivities, so for those of us with seafood allergies or intolerances, I’m offering up four alternatives for your Christmas Eve dinner, four of which are vegan in case you observe the fast from animal protein, and all of which bring the festive, traditional Christmas colors of red and green to your table.
Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!
